Equipped with a 1.9 GHz Intel Core i5-3437U processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 128GB mSATA SSD the HP EliteBook Revolve 810 offers a strong level of performance for a convertible notebook on par with most business notebooks.

Basic world processing and web functions prove to be no challenge for the device, as it's able to juggle multiple tasks with no drop in responsiveness or functionality. The device is also able to take on more strenuous business functions such as Microsoft Office Excel with no drop in performance.  

The major limiting factor for this notebook is its Integrated HD graphics. The machine will struggle with graphically intensive functions (HD video editing, high-end gaming) as a result, but that's certainly not the focus of this business oriented device.

Data retrieval is relatively fast thanks to the machine's mSATA SSD. Applications load fast and it only takes a few seconds to resume from sleep mode. Boot up speeds proved to be a bit slower, taking around 16 seconds for the machine to go from its shutdown state to the Windows 8 screen.

Heat and Noise

The HP Revolve houses heat vents along the bottom chassis and right hand side of the device. In most cases, the convertible notebook remains cool with relatively no noise. However, watching extended media or pushing the machine to its capacity will result in the notebook becoming noticeably warmer and producing a faint hum.

The temperature never reaches the point where it becomes uncomfortable, but users will notice the heat when the machine is stressed.

Battery Life

To test battery life, we used our new PowerMark benchmark in balanced mode. The test consists of a combination of automated web browsing, word processing, gaming and video playback workloads. The test is far more strenuous than our previous test, measuring the machine under a litany of scenarios to better simulate real life use. With the test being far more demanding the scores are understandably lower than our previous benchmark.

In our test, the HP EliteBook Revolve 810 ran for 2 hours and 54 minutes before shutting down after reaching the 5 percent battery reserve limit. Running just shy of 3 hours the EliteBook Revolve offers sub-par battery life for a portable convertible notebook. The device did however score far better in our productivity test running for 5 hours and 21 minutesbefore shutting down. The discrepancy between the two scores likely is a result of the machine offloading a portion of the graphic workload to the CPU. This means that business users whose workload consists mostly of office and web functions can expect far longer battery life. Just don't start viewing media and expect the notebook charge to last all day.
